Something about the sad events last week at Ford Hood, the weather turning cold, the upcoming holidays conspired to make us long for comfort food, old-fashioned food. And so we’ve put together a list of things we used to make and love, staples handed down in our families, the childhood memory of an icebox cake from Katherine Reback, Laraine Newman’s mother’s clam jam, Alan’s mother lasagna, Craig Claiborne’s amazing Fettuccini Alfredo. Sometimes you just want macaroni and cheese or an old-fashioned jello mold.
